The Bible is the written word of God. It was written by nearly 40 different authors in various times and places, but it was all inspired (or God-breathed) by the one God. Because the Bible is the inspired Word of God, it is inerrant. Scripture is the standard and authority by which Christians and all people are called to live (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
The Bible comprises two major divisions: The Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament includes 39 books of law, history, wisdom, poetry, and the writings of the prophets. This Old Covenant was given to the Israelites and has been fulfilled for all people through Jesus, who is the Christ.
The New Testament is composed of four Gospel accounts (books detailing the life and ministry of Jesus), one book of Church history, twenty-one letters, and one book of prophecy. These books teach us who Jesus is and give guidance on how to live a faithful Christian life.
